Deep Thoughts with Leslie Moon

I have enjoyed reading memories of Christmases gone by on fellow bloggers sites and tried to think of a fantastic memory that I could write about. Keeping up with the Joneses? Or the Barbs, Als or Chrises? Maybe. Nonetheless, I couldn't think of anything that would make a worthy post. Sure, I have good memories like when my brother and I got bikes, when dad would take us out back to chop down a cedar tree or the year my brother and I peeked and then meticulously retaped all the packages.  We always had wonderful Christmases but I just don't look back and think, wow, that year was a game changer!  So, instead, I have decided to share my thoughts over the last 24 hours. You're welcome.

1. My family is weird, crazy and far from perfect but we love each other and we make it work!

2. Everyone needs an Aunt Betty. See, Aunt Betty is a crafting genius and has coined "craft time" as a family tradition. Yesterday, the kids (and some of the adults!) made these:
Excuse the crappy iphoneography, but they are key creatures!

3. Great Scott, I need to go on a diet.

4. I'm so glad our family does Mexican food instead of the traditional dinner.  See I told you we are weird!

5. Oh crap, now I have to take the tree down and put it away.

6. I don't ever want to not shop for gifts for my kids again!  I had no idea how much I would miss watching them open their gifts.

7. In all of our blessings, abundance of food and warmth of our homes, I thought of those who didn't have all those things, the soldiers far from their families and those who have never considered the significance of Christmas and I felt sad.

8. In addition to #7, I felt an extreme level of thankfulness wash over me.

9. I missed my dad. I haven't seen him in over 11 years.  He lives all the way across the country.

10. Wow, it came and went so quickly!

Here they are with their "stockings" and a gift from Nana.

Hope you all had a very Merry and blessed Christmas and enjoyed this installment of "Deep Thoughts."

    1. Very true! The only bad thing about authentic Mexican food is the line for the bathroom afterwards!

  2. I have one Christmas memory that sticks out... I woke my Mom up a 4 am, she made cocoa and let me open all but one of my gifts with just me and her. This year she gave am a music box, because as she remembers it, that is what woke her up that morning... I was up playing with the music box. Turns out, although neither of us had ever said it, it was our most favorite Christmas ever.

We talked of traditions on the car ride down to my niece's Christmas eve... my husband is from Portugal, and the only real tradition he had was that they would stay up until midnight and open all their gifts. So glad we don't carry that one through.... I was in bed at 9pm. The holiday season takes a lot out of a girl. The Italians (my sons from the first marriage) do seafood on Xmas eve, a tradition my "new" family is more than happy to partake in. :)

  3. "3. Great Scott, I need to go on a diet."

Me too. But I did before the holidays, and didn't do it then, so I doubt it'll happen now.

  4. Mexican food instead of traditional Christmas fare sounds great right about now.

  5. You guys sound fun if anything else! Christmas to me is all about the kids. We don't exchange gifts but we spoil my granddaughter's and his nieces. That makes my Christmas day special. Mexican huh? Hmmm. Food for though! No pun!

    1. Yes, I love to spoil the kids! My husband has to reel me in at Christmastime usually. Their gift this year was a trip to Disney but I missed watching them open actual gifts!
